Presidential Decree No. 419 of 1995 was issued to establish the Faculty of Computers and Information at Ain Shams University and the study began in September 1996. Since the faculties of computers and information represent a new sector in university education, a special committee of the computer and information sector has been formed. It included the deans of the faculties of computers and information in Egyptian universities, which is completely independent of the faculties of Engineering, Science and commerce.
All faculties of computers and information have scientific departments granting bachelor of computers and information in computer science and information systems. The Faculty of Computing and Information at Ain Shams University awards the Bachelor of Computing and Information Systems in Computer Systems, Scientific Calculations and Bioinformatics of the new programs of the University (Bioinformatics).
All universities and international scientific societies have agreed that the focus of Information Sciences is the scientific study of how to develop, generate, encrypt, transform, transmit, assemble, organize, store, retrieve, broadcast, measure and evaluate information, highlighting multidisciplinary. There are many inter-disciplinary specialties.
The study in the departments of computer science, information systems, computer systems and scientific calculations constitute academic tracks that are all involved in the broad path of information science. Moreover, the university continued to support the faculty. The university was keen to provide the financial support required to establish a library for the faculty with the latest references and specialized scientific books to serve students in the bachelor and postgraduate stages.
The Faculty has invested the financial support of the university in developing and increasing the efficiency of all the lecture rooms, as well as in processing IT labs, digital electronics lab, logic circuits, and microprocessor lab. These laboratories include modern computer. This is in addition to the basic and specialized laboratories of the various scientific departments, which contain more than 250 personal computers serving the laboratory networks.
There are also dedicated research laboratories for master and doctoral letters as well as applied research projects, including the field of computer science, information systems, computer systems and scientific calculations.
The Faculty has also set up a local information network to connect all the computers in different laboratories to each other as well as linking the local information networks to the information network of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. This contributes to:
Mechanize the procedures of students’ affairs, faculty staff and employee, and provide various services in these sectors with high efficiency.
Connect computers in homogeneous sectors to central printers, reducing the number of printers that can be used.
Link scientific and research laboratories to the Internet through the University’s information network.
Update and maintain specialized software and databases and contribute to the creation of information stores.
Full control of all faculty devices and software.
The possibility of benefiting the student from any faculty in order to run the appropriate programs.
Facilitate technical support and fault detection speed.
The Faculty has invested the financial support of the university in developing and increasing the efficiency of all the lecture rooms and processing IT labs.
